Curriculum
At
the junior high level the focus is on helping students develop a solid knowledge of the Bible’s content and for them
to begin to conceive of their lives as part of God’s story of redemption. As a direct contrast to all of the competing
messages the students hear on a daily basis, we proclaim the Biblical truth of God. We spend one semester on the Old Testament
and one on the New Testament.
At the senior high level the first part of our course provides
the students with an opportunity to survey the entire Bible. Whenever appropriate we incorporate relevant historical background,
archaeology, original languages, and other major scholarly discussions. Particular attention is given to understanding how
the Bible fits together to form a coherent whole, principles of good interpretation, the Bible’s reliability, major
theological themes, and how to apply the Bible’s teachings to our everyday lives.
The second
part of the course is designed as a logical complement to the Bible survey. Having gained an adequate Biblical understanding
of what we believe as Christians, students are now prepared to give a more thorough examination to the question of how we
ought to live as Christians. Particular attention is given to the major devotional disciplines, as well as various practical
challenges that come with the territory of Christian discipleship, and the task of thinking through contemporary events from
a Biblical perspective. The entire course can be completed in one semester on the block schedule.
